The shibori process begins with undyed material that is pleated, folded, stitched, and modified. Once stitched or folded and bound, the fabric is dropped into a dye bath, traditionally indigo, and then removed and unwrapped to reveal a pattern. Subtle shifts, irregularity, imperfection... all define the nature of the shibori process and the sensitivity of indigo dye.
