Luxury and splendour were increasingly becoming status symbols, creating a real divide between those who could afford a comfortable life and those who were merely surviving. The Bergère armchair was originally designed as a seat for shepherds and country folk, but it was soon adopted by the nobility, who embellished its shape, asking skilled craftsmen to make it more comfortable and welcoming, especially for the ladies of the time, who wore wide skirts and large quantities of fabric. This need gave rise to the first Bergère chairs, characterised by a high, padded backrest that envelops the body and provides optimal support for the head and neck. The upper part of the backrest features distinctive “ears”, lateral extensions that allow the head to rest on them and lend a touch of elegance and intimacy to the overall design. The armrests are usually rounded and well-upholstered with an exposed wooden structure to better highlight the craftsmanship behind them."With over 40 years of experience, Artecornici Design creates high quality frames and handcrafted products to decorate yours using precious woods and working with various types of finishes, offering a vast choice of models.
