This 19th century high yoke back armchair has a well carved Chinese character “Double Happiness” on the back splat and dramatic protruding crest rail. There are some minor restorations done to the joints. The well-aged original finish leaves beautiful patina all over this rare find. The original paint on the footrest on the lower front is all gone due to over century usage and is intentional left untouched. The high yoke back armchair was also commonly called “Official Hat Chair” because of its resemblance to the wing-like brimmed government official hat. A pair is available and will be outstanding as accent chairs in living room or dining room.
