An Art Nouveau bergère chair, made in France in the early 20th century, crafted from turned and stained wood with an antique golden-brown patina. The backrest features a distinctive "gendarme's hat" shape, with a crest carved with scrolls, shells, and floral motifs characteristic of the style. The armrest supports are adorned with fluting and carved capitals; the seat rail is embellished with garlands and finely chiseled neoclassical ornaments. The entire chair is upholstered in finely striped red theatrical velvet, secured with black upholstery tacks around the entire perimeter of the seat, armrests, and backrest. The velvet shows visible wear: marks and slight discoloration in places, attesting to the piece's age.
