Chairish

$14,334

Early 20th century viennese secession wicker armchair, manufactured by prag-rudniker korbwaren-fabrikation, one of the leading producers of bentwood and wicker furniture in the austro-hungarian empire. executed in painted rattan over a bentwood frame, the chair features a distinctive architectural form with a curved backrest, integrated arm supports, and geometric openwork elements characteristic of secessionist design. The refined proportions and structural clarity reflect the progressive design language associated with the circle of josef hoffmann, koloman moser, otto prutscher, and josef zotti, all of whom collaborated with prag-rudniker in the early 20th century. an original metal retailer’s label is preserved, bearing both charles & joseph krauss, vienna and prag-rudniker korbwaren-fabrikation, indicating distribution through established viennese commercial channels. a rare and refined example of early modern wicker furniture from one of the most significant central european producers of the period. ⸻ reference ottillinger, eva b.: korbmöbel, residenz verlag, salzburg 1990, pp. 99–118. provenance reportedly formerly in use at hotel panhans, semmering, austria, a historic grand hotel closely associated with viennese high society around 1900.
