This item was salvaged from an estate in Atherton, CA. The Cabinetry & Artwork Style: The base cabinet is a bombe chest (or commode), characterized by its elegant, undulating serpentine front and gently curved cabriole legs. Finish & Motif: The entire wood surface features a warm, antiqued golden-ochre faux finish. It is hand-painted with a continuous trompe l'oeil sepia landscape depicting classical Italian or Roman ruins, architectural arches, aqueducts, and silhouettes of trees against a soft, hazy sky. The Surprise Detail: The inside of the right-hand cabinet door features a highly realistic, hand-painted lizard (swifts/skink) complete with a painted drop shadow to give it a 3D effect. Provenance: The inner door is signed and dated: "Evans & Brown © 2001". Evans & Brown is a renowned San Francisco-based muralist and design studio known for high-end, classic trompe l'oeil work. The Countertop & Basin Material: The vanity is fitted with a solid Rouge Marble (often called Rouge de Rance or similar Mediterranean red marbles) countertop with completely integrated carved basin. It features a striking, complex variegation of terracotta red, salmon pink, and deep brown with intricate brecciated veining. Design: The marble top is custom-cut with a bullnose edge that perfectly mimics the dramatic serpentine contours of the wooden chest below. The basin itself is integrated, carved directly down into the marble block for a seamless, continuous look.
