19th C. French Renaissance Carved Oak And Gilt Hall Bench With Heraldic Crest

Chairish

$3,300

Crafted in France circa 1850, this antique oak bench is designed in the Renaissance Revival, or Henri II style, showcasing a richly carved back adorned with a central heraldic shield flanked by two winged cherubs. The composition is surrounded by scrolling acanthus leaves and foliate motifs, reflecting the strong Renaissance influence that defined mid-19th century French decorative arts. The gilt-highlighted crest with lion emblem adds depth and contrast, giving the piece a stately and architectural presence. Constructed from solid oak, the bench displays a warm, time-softened patina across the surface. The rectangular seat is framed with a carved frieze of scrolling foliage, while the sides rest on sculptural supports with pierced and carved detailing, adding dimension and visual interest. The back panel reveals traditional joinery, indicative of quality craftsmanship and durability. With its compact proportions and bold decorative character, this bench is ideal for an entry hall, hallway, or as an accent piece in a living space or study. The bench is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor wear consistent with its 19th century origin. Dimensions: 45"W x 12.5"D x 37.5"H Seat Height: 18.5"H
