The table skirt is beautifully caved with a frieze, centered with a 'Green Man' mask (representing seasonal fertility dating back to the Greco-Roman period). The table is raised on ornately carved and bobbin turned legs. The table is in excellent antique condition and of important historical significance, this fine and rare antique table is ready to grace your space. The Skipworth family originally derived its name from the lordship of Skipwith in Yorkshire and produced several prominent branches, including the Skipwith baronets in both England and Virginia By the 19th century, the family had significant presences in Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and Warwickshire, as well as a prominent American branch in Virginia (notably at Prestwould Plantation). The family had links with royalty, being descendants of King Edward III, hence the coronet over their coat of arms.
