Our beam bench with live edge back utilizes salvaged local pine logs for a rustic bench. The trio of a simple form of the bottom with rusted corten steel legs and a graceful live edge back, expresses the natural textures of the end grain pine, live edge wood and industrial rusted steel to create an elegant and intriguing seating.A 15" x 15" beam is milled and finished to sit on a Corten steel legs, mortised into the bottom of the beam. The beam bench brings rustic beauty at a variety of lengths. Cracks, knots and variation is part of the grace of these pieces. The wood will continue to move and the finish to age over time. The finish is shou sugi ban, a traditional process of burning, wire-brushing and oiling the wood. We add a low sheen, urethane for extra protection and seal. Indoor or covered patio outdoor is preferable to complete exposure to the elements. Wood will age faster outside and may crack or move, as with all wood. Depending on exposure, regular cleaning and yearly re-application of urethane may be required. Crack will reveal unfinished wood. Corten steel is intended to rust.
