French Louis Xiv Style Bleached Oak 4-Door Enfilade Buffet, Circa 1940s

Chairish

$4,200

An elongated French buffet with more than two doors is known as an enfilade. This bleached four-door enfilade (from circa 1940s) has been hand-carved in the style of Louis XIV. All four doors open to reveal a segmented compartment (three in total, as the center section is fronted by the two double doors), each with one adjustable shelf. The rectangular doors have been carved with two hallmarks of the Louis XIV style: panels having arched tops with shaped indents and luxurious molding. There are also two belt drawers with oval handles above the shorter center doors, featuring thick rectangular molding. Thick quarter-round molding to the top softens the rectilinear nature of the enfilade, as does the several layers of molding on the low-profile apron. Two large bun feet in the front can be seen beneath the skirt, while the two back feet are blocked. The sides are also very linear, consisting of rectangular panels with subtle chamfered edges on the sides. Bleaching the wood has given the enfilade a tan finish with golden accents, also adding more visibility to the staggering oak wood grains and the round dowel construction, both enhancing the character of our Louis XIV-style enfilade. Place it in a hallway, on a landing, or in the living room for a storage piece with restrained elegance.
