Mid 20th Century French Louis Xiv Style Light Oak "Buffet De Chasse" With Drawers

Chairish

$4,800

This robust mid-century "Buffet de Chasse" was crafted in France circa 1950 in the stately Louis XIV style, combining bold architectural lines with refined detailing. Made from solid oak with a warm, honey-toned finish, the cabinet features a thick molded top with rounded front corners and chamfered back corners, allowing for a softer profile against the wall. Two arched panel doors and a pair of discreet drawers are framed by fluted pilasters capped with scrolled capitals and a carved central rosette. The doors open to reveal generous interior shelving, offering practical storage for serve-ware, linens, or pantry goods. The cabinet is raised on a continuous plinth base and measures just over six feet wide while maintaining a narrow 21.5-inch depth, making it ideal for tighter spaces. A functional and richly detailed vintage piece, perfect for a dining room, entryway, or as a distinctive shop counter. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use. During the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV in the 17th and 18th centuries, the "buffet de chasse" became a staple in French hunting lodges and châteaux. Originally designed to present game birds after the hunt, often atop marble surfaces, these pieces combined utility with decorative grandeur, a tradition reflected in this handsome oak example.
