Black Leather Chair From The Mánes Exhibition Hall

Chairish

$861

A tubular chair designed by Ladislav Vrátník in the 1970s, which once adorned the legendary Mánes Exhibition Hall on the banks of the Vltava River in Prague. This functionalist building was constructed in 1930 on the site of the former Šítkovské mills according to a design by Otakar Novotný and served for many years as the headquarters of the Mánes Union of Fine Arts. To this day, it is considered an architectural gem and a symbol of a prestigious exhibition space. The chair has a bent chrome-plated steel tube frame, and the seat and backrest have a plywood base, are upholstered, and covered with black leather. The chair is in very good original condition. The leather is slightly torn in places and the chrome plating is scratched, as can be seen in the photos. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
