A charming pair of side chairs that come from Shanxi province and date back to the mid 19th century. They are beautifully styled with the familiar yoke shaped top rail, fitted over backward bending stiles that extend through the seat to form the chairs' feet. They are finished in a rich honey brown that brings out the lovely natural wood grain. The seats are set flush into the thick frames and the backrests are in a subtle 'S 'shape, with a single circular long life symbol set near the top in carved relief. A further carving can be found on the shaped, beaded apron below the seat. Please note; sold as a pair, the price shown is for the two chairs.
