Gilded Iron Coffee Table Attributed To Arturo Pani – Mexican Modernism, Circa 1950s

Chairish

$8,000

A stunning example of Mexican Modernism, this gilded iron coffee table is attributed to the legendary designer Arturo Pani, known for his elegant fusion of classical European forms with modernist restraint. Crafted in the 1950s, this piece is believed to have been produced by the blacksmith workshop of Manuel Chacón in Mexico City, which was known for fabricating Pani’s original designs. The base features elegant C-scroll legs formed from twin iron bands, which are “buckled” together in refined loops—creating a belted motif that effortlessly marries classical ornamentation with minimalist structure. The mottled gold leaf finish reveals a warm red bole beneath, lending a rich, timeworn patina that evokes age and artisanal handwork. Topped with its original 3/4" thick glass, the table features polished edges and rounded corners—with only minor surface scratches consistent with age. The underside of the base is signed "Mexico", supporting the attribution to the Chacón workshop. This is a rare and refined piece that embodies the sophistication of Arturo Pani's design ethos, blending Hollywood Regency glamour with the bold craftsmanship of mid-century Mexican design. A perfect centerpiece for any curated interior.
