Round Walnut Coffee Table By Nicolay Diulgheroff, Italy, 1950s

Chairish

$3,844

Elegant and sculptural round coffee table designed by Nicolay Diulgheroff in the 1950s, crafted in richly grained walnut and recently restored by our atelier with a traditional shellac (gomma lacca) finish. The design is defined by its refined balance between structure and fluidity. A circular wooden frame encloses the glass top, creating a soft and continuous perimeter that enhances the transparency of the surface. Beneath, the base reveals a sophisticated interplay of curved and intersecting elements: four gently tapered legs rise with a subtle outward stance, supporting a sinuous cross structure that meets at the center in a precise and architectural joint. This intersection forms a visual focal point, emphasizing both craftsmanship and structural clarity. The bentwood elements display a warm, luminous patina, with natural variations in the walnut grain highlighted by the glossy shellac finish. Close-up details reveal the quality of the joinery and the organic continuity of the curves, characteristic of Diulgheroff’s approach—where modernist rigor meets a more expressive, almost sculptural sensibility. The glass top rests neatly within the wooden rim, maintaining a clean profile and allowing full appreciation of the base from above. Completely restored and in excellent condition. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
