Large and heavy solid bronze mortar and pestle, produced in Europe circa 1950–1970. This impressive piece features cast historicizing relief decoration, including a mounted warrior figure and stylized geometric panels inspired by medieval and Renaissance apothecary mortars. The surface presents a deep, aged bronze patina with areas of natural verdigris. The underside is marked with the word “Bronze” engraved in cursive, along with an additional indistinct workshop or maker’s mark, consistent with mid-20th-century European artisanal bronze production, particularly from Spain, Italy, or France. Designed as both a functional mortar and a decorative prestige object, this type of piece was commonly produced in the post-war period as a revival of historical forms.
