This antique Chinese Desk in elegant Ming Dynasty Style is a truly rare find. The intricate carving of "Ice Chips" design decorated the bottom rack of the desk. The copper hardware is uniquely crafted. The desk is handcrafted and structured with wooden pegs and tenons—very traditional craftsmanship for furniture making in ancient China. The whole desk was made of Chinese traditional Zelcova (a precious domestic subspecies of Elm) This type of wood was the favorite timber of Suzhou cabinet maker during the early Ming Dynasty as the counterpart to Phoebe which is so precious that only available to the Royal family. Zleova was once completely exhausted during the late Ming Dynasty and reappeared then extinct again in modern time. Circa early 19th century. Original patina and wear.
