Vico Magistretti "122" chair for Cassina, dark brown wood and red leather, Italy, 1967The "122" chair designed by Vico Magistretti in 1967 has a sculptural design, created with a wooden structure, a plywood shell, and semi-cylindrical section legs that permit the chair to be stacked to reduce its size and be easily moved. This feature was a significant innovation for the '60s. Like the plywood seat, the slightly concave backrest connects seamlessly to the vertical uprights that rise in a spiral direction. Explicitly recalling the earlier model "121" designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Cassina, in the Magistretti chair the backrest has a fork shape that evokes the flexibility of the back support.
