1970s Restored Michael Taylor For Baker Walnut & Black Lacquer Extension Dining Table

Chairish

$5,000

Monumental mid century extension dining table in newly refinished condition, designed by Michael Taylor and produced by Baker in the 1970s. The dining surface rests atop a set of sleekly tapered cherrywood legs, whose black lacquered inner faces create a point of contrast with the natural earthy red of the table’s exterior. The top comprises panes of walnut hemmed in by borders of cherry. With the three included leaves, the table expands to 10 feet in length, accommodating up to 12 guests. During restoration we removed the original speckled finish – a hallmark of outmoded 1970s aesthetic – and replaced it with a clear satin lacquer that puts the woodgrain in focus. The result is a table that balances monumental scale with understated appearance, fit for both contemporary and mid century interiors. It is structurally solid and ready for another lifetime of use.
