A pair of vintage Louis XVI-style chinoiserie display cabinets featuring pagoda-shaped tops, three shelves, and black lacquer hand-painted chinoiserie landscapes and figures, with humorous scenes, which is very rare in French furniture. Although chinoiserie furniture was originally designed and made in England in the second half of the 18th century, chinoiserie in France has almost always focused on surface decoration. The gilded oriental scenes on the three panels are inspired by 18th-century French originals. The original of this piece has previously been offered at Christie's.
