A small size Louis XV style bombe chest decorated in Chinoiserie style lacquer by Maitland- Smith furniture. The chest is an unusual blend of mottled black, green red and orange lacquer rendered to appear as an antique finish and stylized on the drawer fronts with an intricate palace motif of raised lacquer figures engaged in a variety of activities. Additionally, the chest is adorned on the top surface and the sides with an ornate tree-of-life rendering featuring delicate foliage and tropical birds. The chest includes two pull-out drawers (the interiors of each finished in black lacquer) which are mounted with richly modeled cast brass gilded handles; corner escutcheons on the chest are of the same gilt cast brass as are the sabot on the legs of the piece. The chest measure 30" wide x 18" deep x 31" high. This piece was purchased new for display in our furniture showroom and has never been used. The piece is in excellent condition but may have minor scratches consistent with being on display in a fine furniture showroom. This piece is no longer a current item from Maitland-Smith and has been discontinued.
