English, William and Mary. Highboy in Old Dark Oak, Circa 1690. Importantly in a very usable small scale, this two part William and Mary highboy is of native dark Oak all worked by hand chiseled, carved, and with hand turned legs. The bold upper cornice is above a hidden so-called bolection molding drawer. Double arch moldings surround drawers and a deep trim typical of the period sit as mid steps below. An arcaded apron with a beaded rim adds excitement and movement to the lowercase above well turned bold baluster turned legs. These legs are held by curved flat stretchers for strength and style above Baroque form feet. This is a sound survivor of one of the earliest periods. Minor repairs, which do not distract from its beauty or functionality. No keys.
