A French carved wood chest of three drawers from the early 19th century. This antique commode from France features a rectangular-shaped top with rounded front corners which rests above a case which houses three beautifully carved drawer fronts in a display of bow-tied swagged garland flanking, and a wreathed center around each escutcheon. There are a pair of pulls on each drawer, which mimic the bow and swag carvings on each farther end of the drawer fronts. A finely carved garland trim outlines the shape of each drawer. Each of the chest's sides are raised paneled, and the skirt is nicely scalloped along three sides. The wood has a new custom finish as it has been stripped down, a wash of creamy/taupe across the top, and added highlight color to enhance the various trimmings. This 19th century French chest is presented upon cylindrical front feet. This piece retains it's original finish.
