“Sauteuse” Chest, Louis XV, wood, circa 18th century – France Exceptional sauteuse chest, made in France at the beginning of the 19th century. Veneered entirely in extraordinary wood, the grain blends to create subtle ornamentation. The glossy finish further enhances the splendor of the wood grain. This exquisite piece stands on four short galvanized legs, the front ones with gilt bronze sablots. Its front features two registers with two handles and an elaborate lock. All fittings, including the handles and keyholes, are gilt bronze and then chased. Ample storage capacity. The sides feature a geometric pattern made in marquetry. The top is made of gray marble with white veining, original to the period, following the curved shapes of the profile.
