A French Neoclassical period painted wood commode with brass trimmings from the early 19th century. This antique chest from France features a rectangular-shaped top which slightly overhangs the case below which houses three graduated drawers, flanked within flute-carved front (and rear) side posts, a linear skirt, and presented upon four squared legs which gently taper towards their brass feet. The full-sized and dove-tailed drawers are each adorned with recessed panel front facades outlined in brass trimming, and fitted with a pair of brass rectangular pulls with a single brass escutcheon at their center. The wood has a primarily black older finish, with a nice worn patina throughout, which makes the brass accents pop. This early 19th century French neoclassical commode, with its handsome black finish and clean lines, will make a beautiful addition to a bedroom, or perhaps in a foyer or living area with decorative items atop and storage within
