An unusual English Victorian period (circa 1875) cast iron fireplace surround painted to appear as a wooden piece. The mantel features intricate architectural elements including fluted half round pilasters terminating with classical swag decorations just under the mantel shelf. But the real show stopper here are three repousse hand painted cast iron renderings of 1.) a bat in flight between a grape vine with grape clusters, 2.) an owl perched an oak branch with acorns and with a crescent moon in the background, and 3.) a butterfly amidst foliage with berries. The mantel is mid-sized so it should be easy to place within an interior design plan: The shelf is 50" wide x 8" deep The body of the mantel is 45" wide (from outside leg to outside leg) The overall height is 50" h. The opening between the legs is 28" wide x 32.25" high.
