A fine Federal Sheraton Boston mahogany card table, early 19th century, the hinged rectangular top with a serpentine front and outset corners, the apron centered by an oval panel of richly flame-figured veneers of birchwood or satinwood and edged with casuarina wood banding that flows in uninterrupted continuity on the front, corners and sides. The top opens to reveal a playing surface supported by a single rear gate leg. The apron follows the serpentine profile, raised on elegant slender bulbous reeded tapering legs typical of the Federal style. This table excels in graceful form, craftsmanship and brilliant design.
