This antique beech panel was retrieved from a late 19th century four-poster wedding bed. Created in Shanghai, East China, the piece still boasts its original paint - gold, black, red, blue, and white. Its intricate design comprises three upper panels, each exalted by an arch and detailed inlay carving. The beautifully crafted, three-dimensional carvings depict a traditional Chinese narrative, featuring richly-robed characters disembarking from boats and pagoda towers. The aprons below each main panel are similarly carved and painted, while the four base feet are formed as trees and figures wearing lavish robes. with its timeless appeal, a beautiful piece, perfect today still as a feature headboard over a bed or just as a unique wall decoration.
