Antique French Butcher Block Baker’s Table Pétrin Farmhouse Kitchen Island c1790. Direct from France, a rare antique French butcher block baker’s table (Pétrin), featuring a massive butcher block atop a substantial carved base with drawer. The intriguing design of this piece begins with its heavy 2.25” thick butcher block top which slides in either direction. Formed from thick oak planks and secured with original iron joining plates on the sides, the top has a rich, aged patina that only generations of daily use and wear can create. Beneath the butcher block, the hand constructed base features a large drawer or ‘dough trough’, trimmed with raised moulding and fitted with knobs on each side and opening in either direction, allowing the table to be viewed from every side and making it perfectly suited as a center table or kitchen island. Bold arched legs, pegged construction, carved quatrefoil brackets, and thick rectangular stretcher supports on all sides provide exceptional strength while showcasing quality craftsmanship throughout, circa 1790. Measurements: 30.75” ht. x 42.75” x 43.25”. Butcher block top only, 2.25” ht. x 42.75” x 43.25”. Base only, 28.50” ht. x 37.25” x 33.50”. NOTE: All of our antiques are direct from Europe.
