This is an exceptional, highly collectible example of Early American Pressed Glass (EAPG) manufacturing from the late Victorian era. Produced by Riverside Glass Works (Wellsburg, West Virginia) circa 1894, this standalone kerosene lamp features factory Pattern No. 423, colloquially and formally known to advanced collectors as "Empress". An investment-grade survivor, this piece showcases remarkably vibrant, original factory fire-gilded gold cold paint—completely untouched, unscrubbed, and in true as-found collector condition. Sharing the same under-base design concept as its taller counterpart, this version features an intricate intaglio design molded directly into the underside of the foot. When viewed from above, the elegant Victorian women's profile portraits and trailing rose garlands showcase a remarkable, deep three-dimensional depth. The reverse-molded underbase retains its original, bright factory fire-gilded gold cold paint decoration, which seals and highlights the intaglio work beautifully. Because the gold was applied on the reverse recessed side, it has been beautifully shielded from over-handling over the last century. The glass foot is completed by a crisp row of molded thumbprints (bullseye lenses) tracing the lower rim. The clear glass font features clean vertical optique paneling and is structurally integrated with an embossed glass rim along the lower section of the base reading "RIVERSIDE CLINCH"—denoting Riverside's famous patented interlocking collar system designed to eliminate plaster degradation. The lamp comes equipped with a vintage period-correct brass Eagle burner and a clear glass chimney finished with a traditional beaded top rim.
