Functionalist Central European Seating Group, 1920s, Set Of 4

Chairish

$3,809

A rare and visually striking Central European seating group dating from the 1920s, originally conceived for institutional or public interiors such as sanatorium lounges, waiting rooms, or spa facilities. The set consists of a semi-circular bench, two matching armchairs, and a central round table, all executed in turned wood with a restrained functionalist vocabulary. The rhythmic vertical spindles, rounded backrests, and elevated construction reflect early modernist concerns with hygiene, durability, and spatial efficiency—hallmarks of post-Secession design in Central Europe. The integrated castors underline the original practical intent of the ensemble, allowing for easy reconfiguration within communal interiors. While primarily utilitarian in origin, the sculptural presence of the curved seating elements gives the group a strong architectural character that translates exceptionally well into contemporary interiors. An evocative and complete ensemble, ideal for concept-driven hospitality projects, galleries, or collectors seeking authentic early 20th-century Central European design with a strong narrative and visual identity. Origin Central Europe Period 1920–1930 Materials Turned wood, original painted finish, metal castors Condition Good vintage condition with visible patina and surface wear consistent with age and use.
