A stunning example of the Neoclassical Revival style, often referred to as “Karl Johan Revival” in Sweden, this unique lounge chair is handcrafted from dark espresso finished birch hardwood. The exposed frame pays homage to the early 19th-century Empire period and features exquisite hand-carved detailing drawn from ancient influences, including stylized anthemion carvings on the arm supports and decorative reeding. The front legs terminate in dramatic lion's paw or claw feet, a classic motif reflecting the Greek and Egyptian fascination prevalent in the original Empire style and revived in the early 20th century. Recently restored to the highest standards by our in-house craftspeople, this chair has been fully repadded, resprung and newly upholstered in a vibrant Schumacher hot pink corduroy fabric. Hand-placed black nail heads trim the exterior over a matching hot pink gimp. This bold, modern color choice creates a sophisticated contrast with the antique espresso frame. Comfortable and roomy.
