Set Of Mademoiselle Lounge Chairs By Ilmari Tapiovaara For Asko, 1950s

Chairish

$2,313

A striking pair of early Mademoiselle lounge chairs designed by renowned Finnish modernist Ilmari Tapiovaara for Asko in the mid-1950s. First introduced in 1956, this model quickly became an icon of Scandinavian mid-century design, combining pared-back elegance with exceptional ergonomics. Crafted from black lacquered birch, these original early production chairs exemplify Tapiovaara’s mastery of form — with slender tapering spindles, a softly curved backrest, and a gracefully reclined posture that invites relaxation. The light, open structure creates a powerful sculptural silhouette while maintaining strength and comfort. The chairs retain their original Asko maker’s labels, affirming their provenance. They are in very good original condition, structurally solid, and display expected signs of age, such as light surface wear and minor finish patina. Their honest condition reflects both their quality and decades of thoughtful use. Perfect for modernist interiors, reading corners, or collectors of iconic Nordic design. This piece has an attribution mark, I am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
