A rare mid-century two-seater sofa designed by Dutch modernist Cor Alons for C. den Boer’s Meubelfabrieken (Gouda) in the 1950s. While Alons’ chairs from this era are well-documented, this specific sofa design is a scarce find. The sofa has been carefully restored featuring entirely new internal padding and a fresh upholstery in a pink colorway of 'Silk' by Camira—a sustainable fabric made from a blend of wool, flax, and silk-cattail fibers. To preserve its historical character, the laminated birch plywood frame has been left in its original condition. It shows a natural patina and minor wear consistent with its age. Structurally, the piece highlights Alons’ expertise in bent plywood, characterized by its tapered legs and sculptural, outward-flaring armrests that display the layered edges of the wood. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no official proof of authenticity, however it is well documented in design history.
