Designed by Angus Hutcheson for Ango, Vana Paradise is a monumental sculptural pendant light handcrafted from approximately 12,000 natural silk cocoons, individually assembled by skilled artisans in Bangkok, Thailand.The design evolved from Eight Thousand Miles of Home, Ango's celebrated large-scale light installation first exhibited at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD), New York, in 2012. Exploring the poetic relationship between natural materials and light, the installation demonstrated how thousands of silk cocoons could transform illumination into an immersive sculptural experience through their extraordinary ability to softly diffuse and refract light.Building upon this concept, Hutcheson reinterpreted the museum installation as Vana Paradise for the reception of Vana Retreat, India, translating an exhibition-scale artwork into an architectural lighting sculpture that welcomes visitors with warmth, tranquillity, and a memorable sense of arrival.Each natural silk cocoon is carefully selected and mounted onto a hand-finished stainless-steel wire matrix.
