Large Antique Cast Iron Jardinière On Foot, France, 1900s

Chairish

$505

Large antique cast iron jardinière, originating from France and dating to the period circa 1900. The jardinière consists of an oval bowl raised on a foot and is decorated with scrolling handles and floral reliefs, characteristic of French ornamental metalwork from the turn of the 20th century. The surface retains aged layers of original paint, showing gold-toned and brown to reddish-brown paint remnants, combined with areas of exposed cast iron and natural oxidation. These layers form a rich, varied patina that reflects the object’s age and long-term use. Due to its substantial scale, this jardinière was originally intended for larger plant arrangements and today functions as a strong decorative or architectural element. Drainage holes in the base confirm its original use as a planter. The piece is suitable for use as a decorative jardinière, planter, or sculptural accent, in interior settings or sheltered outdoor environments. Please note that this jardinière differs in patina and paint remnants from the other similar example currently available, which is offered in a separate listing. Country of Manufacture France Period circa 1900 Materials Cast iron Dimensions Width: 80 cm Depth: 34 cm Height: 38 cm Weight Approx. 19 kg Condition Good antique condition. Structurally sound, with surface wear, oxidation, and visible remnants of old gold and brown/reddish-brown paint consistent with age and use.
