An early 20th century Persian Heriz antique rug has a burgundy background with taupe, grey, white, sage and rose accents. It features a characteristic geometric eight-lobed medallion with pendants and complex spandrels. All areas are embellished with a dense flurry of stylized floral and geometric motifs. The composition is framed by an elaborate crab border on a taupe background and the two narrow -inner and outer floral borders. Heriz, in northwestern Iran, is a center for fine tribal rugs which interpret classical Tabriz-style composition with intricate geometric motifs and village charm.
