This exquisite African carved Shona stone has several shades of color from steel gray to copper green to bronze to gold to slate blue to light gray,. I swear I could see all of those shades in different light. The texture also runs from incredibly smooth to rough and jagged. The stone was purposefully and carefully selected by artist to convey the complexity of the subject. Unfortunately, the artists signature is hard to make out. The piece weighs over 40 pounds. It was shipped to the States and travelled to Westport CT. along with several other smaller pieces. This one was valued in the $2,500 - $3,000 range. I believe it was purchased between 1998 - 2001.
