CISITALIA 202 is a sculpture in briccola wood with a lacquered iron base.Paolo Pininfarina describes his work, created for the project ‘Tra le Briccole di Venezia’:The sinuous lines of the 1947 Cisitalia 202 have been carved into the wood, giving life to a work of art seemingly shaped by nature—just as time and the sea have sculpted the mooring posts used for decades by Venetian gondoliers. The choice stems from the desire to replicate, in a wooden sculpture, the forms of a dream car, a timeless beauty, itself defined as a ‘sculpture in motion’.Having entered the realm of legend as a masterpiece of Made in Italy and as a symbol of excellence in design internationally recognized in Pininfarina, the Cisitalia 202 is still on display at the MoMA in New York, where it was once described as ‘one of the eight most beautiful cars of our time.’”
