Mid-Century French Signed Daum Paperweight Sculpture In Clear Crystal

A magnificent, crystal desktop paperweight by renowned French crystal maker Daum. This is a unique, hand-made piece in transparent crystal, engraved on the bottom edge with the recognizable acid-etched "Daum France" maker's mark (see photo). There is a Cross of Lorraine in between the two words which indicates that this is an early piece. This particular paperweight has an irregular, rectangular shape with rounded corners. This kind of more-or-less abstract shaped paperweights date from around the 1950s. With an impressive clarity and a weight of 1.6 kg/3.5 lb it does not only fulfill its' paperweight function but it is also highly decorative. Daum is one of France's most prominent crystal studios. It was founded in 1878 in Nancy by Jean Daum. It is one of the only crystal manufacturers to employ the pâte de verre (glass paste) process for art glass and crystal sculptures,In fair vintage condition. The paperweight has visible scratches and dents on one of the corners (see photos). Otherwise in overall good condition: scratches consistent with age and use (see photos).
