Here is a rare large sized parian portrait bust of Germany’s most important poet , author , playwright , scientist, philosopher, and polymath Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (1749-1832), measuring 17.5” tall , created by the Stoke-on-Trent firm Robinson & Leadbeater circa 1870’s, with potters incised mark in cartouche on rear left shoulder. This is a rare find and a most worthy addition to a serious collection of parian portrait busts. Raised on original socle attached with brass bolt, as pictured. No chips, cracks , damage or repairs found. An extraordinary example of the 19th century potters art, the second last photo shows this version illustrated in R & L 1885 catalog.
