An antique two piece William & Mary double dome bureau, cabinet or bookcase, sometimes called an escritoire, scrutoire or writing cabinet. This 19th century cabinet is divided into two sections, typical of bureaus of this period. The upper section features a deeply moulded double dome, ached paneled doors and candle slides, with the interior shelves and smaller storage compartments. The lower section has a fall front that opens to a writing surface and a fitted interior of eight small drawers and multiple cubby holes, and four larger drawers and a carved apron sitting on bracket feet. A sophisticated piece of 19th century furniture with wonderful patina and in good antique condition. This well-proportioned bureau makes a powerful statement.
