A fine, elegant, antique Austrian inlaid mahogany Biedermeier secretary desk chest/cabinet, circa 1820. A fine quality Biedermeier made from the highest quality book-matched figured mahogany, the top having a bow fronted crown with a secret drawer, above a stepped cornice & flanked by a pair of short turned finials. The cabinet has a single long drawer with an inset brass lock escutcheon above a fall front writing surface, original key is present to all of the functioning locks. The fall front is finely bordered with rosewood banding, enclosing an exquisite fitted interior, with drawers, pigeon holes and a central locking door (key is present) enclosing a single drawer, all inlaid with satinwood stringing and corresponding rosewood banding. The base with three deep drawers offering plenty of useful storage, the drawers open and close with ease, the cabinet is flanked with a pair of circular columns with carved capitals and terminating to turned feet. The cabinet is in excellent condition and is made from the finest materials & displays the remarkable skills of the cabinetmaker's art, it can be your every day desk and will accommodate the largest of laptops & provides lots of useful storage.
