A rare Period Louis XVI (1754-1793) ecritoire (small writing cabinet) Exquisitely hand-crafted in France during the second half of the 18th century, most likely Parisian work, signed gilt bronze ormolu mounts stamed D.R., having a shaped variegated marble top, over demilune bow front solid wood construction mahogany marquetry inlaid banded case, fall-front panel opening to reveal an inset leather writing slope and interior gallery with single shelf open cubby atop a pair of small drawers, adorned with classical gilt bronze mounts, fitted with two dovetailed drawers affixed with original brass escutcheon flanked by ring handle pulls, rising on tapered square legs. Dimensions: (approx) 36" High, 29.5" Wide, 14" Deep Great antique condition, especially considering its over 240 years old. Beautifully aged patina over the whole. Past restoration work around the mid-20th century, including lining drawer interiors. Retaining original antique character throughout, including minor veneer lifting and ag appropriate splits, all wear consistent with age and indicative of use. Delivered cleaned, waxed, with hand rubbed polished French patina finish, ready for immediate use
