Dimensions: 45”H x 57-⅞”W x 30”D A generously sized secretary desk, made from pine in 19th century Sweden, Gustavian in style. Enveloping the chest/desk is a wonderfully patinated painted finish – a distinguishing feature of Gustavian antiques - this example reads as burnt umber for the top coat with traces of the honey-gold wood grain peeking through the scraped texture. The slanted top will unfold to reveal a well-appointed interior: Six drawers and two large compartments provide lodging for inkpots, quills, parchment…or perhaps a laptop or tablet today. The top can be accessed using its functional locking mechanism, one key included. Three wide drawers span the chest base, all with turned knobs. A sweet, shaped skirt provides a bit of eccentric style to this multifunctional case antique. Please view the detailed images to see more. Desk height: 33"
