A pair of rectangular polychrome wrought iron shelves from the early 20th century. These Italian Art Nouveau pieces consist of a sheet metal top with a railing of embossed acanthus leaves. The shelf is composed of two iron scrolls held together by bands and rivets, with sprigs of flowers and leaves inserted into the center. They are handcrafted and lacquered in shades of green, brown, and red. Made in Italy, they date back to the early 1900s, the Art Nouveau period. They come from a private collection in Milan and are in good condition. They are wall-mounted with two hooks; see the accompanying photograph. Period: 1910
