Our Piedras Negras collection is a tribute to the enduring artistry of the ancient Maya, drawing direct inspiration from archaeological research and timeless forms. In collaboration with anthropologist Jocelyn DeGollago, we explore the evolution of furniture in Guatemala, beginning with the PreHispanic Period (250–900 AD).This era, richly depicted in polychrome vessels from the royal courts of the Maya, showcases recurring ceremonial furnishings: stools, thrones, palanquins, lintels, and banners—objects that were not only functional but symbolic of power, reverence, and identity. We reinterpret these iconic forms through the lens of contemporary craftsmanship, using monolithic volumes, sculptural silhouettes, and solid hardwoods to express a modern reverence for the past. The result is a collection that feels grounded and elemental—pieces that embody both origin and intention, rooted in ancestral memory but designed for today's spaces.•Named after the archaeological site of Piedras Negras in Petén, Guatemala, each piece is handmade in our Guatemala factory, where ancient tradition meets modern form in enduring, soulful materials.
