A French, solid oak coffer from the 1800s, this heavy storage trunk has a paneled exterior counterbalanced with hand-carved foliate patterns scrolling across the frieze that add to the rustic charm of this 19th century antique. The lid opens on hand-forged iron hinges to a deep and wide storage compartment versatile for an entryway, hall, or mudroom. One could even use it as a traditional “footlocker” placed at the end of a bed. There is a keyhole hidden in the frieze however the lock (and key) has since been removed. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax to maintain this cherished antique for future generations.
