A Beautiful XL northern Portuguese hewn chestnut and juniper coffer from the 17th century.. The front with incised decoration divided into 3 panels, each decorated with birds and zoomorphic animals. Gorgeous rich chestnut patina with old repairs and restoration. A prominent hand forged original lock in metal, cut and pierced. Similar piece referenced in Bernardo Ferrao's "Portuguese Furniture from the Early Days to Mannerism" Vol 4. Perfect as a console and/or storage.
