The decorative plate surrounding the keyhole on this remarkable oak immigrant trunk is dated 1793 and signed with the initials CEM. It is made from handsome European oak, quarter sawn on the top planks. Lovely hardware. Minor damage to the wood and the hardware as depicted. Exact origin is unknown, but it appears to be from northern Europe, probably Germany.
